Youtube, Netflix Reduces Streaming Quality in EU

*Update: YouTube had recently announced that the change will now be applied globally.*

With more and more people starts working from home due to concerns to corona virus (COVID-19), Netflix, and YouTube decided for compromises in their streaming quality to prevent overload and to save resources.

Since streaming usually uses large amount of data (around 3GB for an hour of HD streaming). It makes sense that these companies are approached in helping save resources. For Netflix, they will lower the picture quality to save data however, Full HD and 4K are still available. This action will lower your data consumption by 25% according to Netflix. For YouTube, they will switch the default quality to standard definition (480p).

These compromises are only active in EU as of now and no further reports whether it will be applied to other regions as well.
